Enchanting. They were enchanting! Misquoting one of my favorite movie quotes. I almost didn’t go to this gig. I was tired from work, got home and thought maybe I should sit this one out. But my gig-going urge set it, so instead of skipping it I thought perhaps I should rest a bit and go later –catch them for a bit. So even though doors opened at 7pm I arrived at 8:45pm. To my good fortune, they hadn’t started yet - I did miss the supporting acts though.

Cattle and Cane were on the stage by 9pm. What a nice band name, quite unique. Not only do I like their band name but, more importantly, it turns out I like their music. I’m glad I decided to attend after all because I would have truly missed out!
An interesting fact is that they have two lead singers, male and female. Both with great voices and the rest of the band are skilful musicians. The lead male singer said that both lead singers and the keyboard player were related. The rest of the band they found playing at a street corner! Lovely banter! |
They engaged well with the crowd. They also commented on the nice day they had in Nottingham and that they are staying in igloos. Well, they said, in reality they are sheds but advertised as igloos!
The gig went on for a good hour. I managed to get a set list. Notice it’s handwritten! When they become very famous this will be worth a fortune! (I will then auction it and donate the money to a charity of my choice!) Songs are diverse. Some low some energetic. All of them though have the same 'soul' if you like. They all have the same identity. There was one song ' We were children' that was written for a friend they lost when they were just children. It was beautiful and authentic. The lyrics ring too true. ( I later realized they decided to play it after they had set their setlist). For another song 'Dancing' the lead male singer after the first verse invited the crowd to sing along and for a moment he lost his lyrics. It was such a cute moment. (This song puts tears in my eyes.) |
The crowd was diverse, all ages - over 25s perhaps. A lot of them were already fans! They had seen them in Nottingham the previous time they gigged. They said this was their second time here.
Cattle&Cane are promoting their second album. They were happy to announce that they made it into the Top100 (#53) that week. This is an amazing achievement given they don't have a label backing them!
