Another interesting observation was that for this gig, I was surrounded by a mostly goth(ish) looking crowd. Not all of them but there were a few that caught my attention. For example, when ordering my soft drink two ladies were next to me, both of which had tattoos on their faces. One of them had a chilli tattoo on her cheekbone. When I say chilli, yes, I actually mean that little red spicy veggie. I must say, though, it wasn't bad. I wouldn't do it but she was sporting it pretty well. Once I got my soft drink, this lady passes by. The crowd along with the two face-tattooed women noticed her presence. To be honest, I thought that lady looked like a train wreck - shabby and unkempt. Her hair was bleach blonde, mostly uncombed fastened on the side by a black hair pin, pink blouse and checkered blue pants. Little did I know she was actually the lead singer of Black Honey! I think you just realized I had gone totally 'unresearched' for this gig. I didn't look up the band before booking the ticket, I actually bought it based on the nice band name! I was in total darkness of their music. The appearance of the crowd and the lead singer herself should have given me the clue of what genre they sing. But nope... I was totally surprised when I realized they sing head-banging songs. The crowd was actually head-banging during the whole gig. If you personally knew me, you would be hysterically laughing now by just the mere thought of me in a head-banging concert! I cannot say I remember all of the songs they sung, nor can I say I would listen to all of them again. But the crowd seemed to love all songs, so I am sure the band is doing something right to please their fans. It's not them... it's me! As you have probably guessed, I wouldn't be the right gig-goer to give you the whole set list. What I can tell you though is apart from the band the gig had an additional protagonist: a flying flamingo! The band threw an inflated pink flamingo at the crowd and the crowd responded by dancing and throwing the flamingo in the air. The flamingo must have danced in the air the whole night through!! It took me a good while to get a decent photo of it... but I did!
They certainly deserve recognition for how their fans enjoy themselves and respond to their songs and presence on stage.
(I must be honest, since going to the gig and writing this review, I have listened to most of their songs on youtube and they have grown on me! I am really enjoying them! Who knows, maybe I am slowly turning into a head-banger myself!) Here are their social media links: facebook Twitter Soundcloud |
